Description
First Destination Transportation (FDT) is a critical component of the Navy's supply chain management. The primary goal of FDT is to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of material from procurement sources to the first point of use or storage, both within the Continental United States and overseas. This includes transportation from the point of origin to the point of use or storage when Navy-owned material or equipment is provided to a contractor incident to a Research and Development project or a system/equipment acquisition or modification. The program involves coordination with various agencies such as NAVSUP, Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), NAVWAR, NAVAIR, and NAVSEA to facilitate the transportation of OPN-procured equipment and material, as well as Government Furnished Equipment/Government Furnished Material (GFE/GFM) provided to contractors.
The specific objectives of Program 7066, First Destination Transportation (FDT), are to effectively manage transportation costs for shipments of OPN-procured equipment and material to their intended destinations. This includes ensuring that materials are delivered from procurement sources to the first point of use or storage in a timely manner, while also providing transportation for Navy-owned material or equipment provided to contractors during Research and Development projects or system/equipment acquisitions. Additionally, the program aims to address specific requirements from different agencies such as NAVSUP, Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), NAVWAR, NAVAIR, and NAVSEA by coordinating transportation logistics and managing costs effectively. Overall, the program seeks to optimize the delivery process while adhering to budgetary constraints and meeting the transportation needs of various Navy activities.
