Description
The Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) is a critical component of the Next Generation Combat Vehicle (NGCV) Army Modernization Priority. The AMPV is designed to replace the Army's aging Armored Personnel Carrier (M113) Family of Vehicles within the Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT). Its primary objectives include mitigating capability gaps in force protection, mobility, reliability, and interoperability across the Spectrum of Conflict. The program aims to replace five mission roles currently performed by the M113 FoV by transferring the current M113 mission equipment packages to a new Military Vehicle Derivative platform. The AMPV will account for approximately 30% of the ABCT's tracked fleet and consists of five variants: Mission Command Vehicle, Medical Treatment Vehicle, Medical Evacuation Vehicle, General Purpose Vehicle, and Mortar Carrier Vehicle.

The AMPV program was initiated as an Acquisition Category (ACAT) ID program at Milestone B (MS B) and has undergone various milestones and approvals. The program primarily focuses on finalizing efforts associated with Production Qualification Testing (PQT), Initial Operational Test & Evaluation (IOT&E), Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E), and corrective action implementation resulting from test results. The funding supports AMPV Product Development, Government Program Management Costs, and Government Test Costs. Additionally, it includes efforts provided under the AMPV Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) prime contract along with Government Furnished Material (GFM), systems engineering/program management, prototype hardware procurement, prototype system level fabrication and integration, software development, support to the government test program, oversight of subcontractors/suppliers, and more. This program also supports the NGCV Cross Functional Team (CFT) and aims to ensure adequate system support packages are available during testing.
