Description
The AFWERX Prime program is designed to accelerate the transition of innovative technologies by collaborating with technology developers and leveraging the talents of Airmen and Guardians. It aims to reduce risks in emerging technology markets through partnerships with industries, providing access to government analysis, testing, and certification capabilities. The focus is on transitioning dual-use technologies that can be applied both commercially and militarily, ensuring a competitive advantage in key technology areas.
One of the primary objectives is to explore and transition transformative vertical flight technologies through the Agility Prime initiative. This involves research, development, testing, and evaluation of systems that incorporate non-traditional electric or hybrid propulsion for manned or optionally manned missions. The goal is to support mobility and sustainment in various environments, enabling agile logistics, humanitarian operations, disaster response operations, and enhanced communication capabilities.
AFWERX Prime also emphasizes autonomy efforts aimed at accelerating enabling technologies for autonomous capabilities. This includes creating a proving ground for evaluating and maturing autonomous technologies in collaboration with industry partners. The program seeks to integrate these capabilities into major Air Force autonomy programs, supporting both commercial advancements and military applications.
Additionally, the Integration Prime initiative focuses on developing software integration capabilities to enable rapid adaptability and scalability of mission threads. This involves working with industry partners to create an open architecture toolkit for integrating applications across multiple platforms. The overarching goal is to ensure early adoption, procurement, and fielding of advanced technologies that bolster national security and maintain technological dominance.
