Description
Weapons and Munitions Product Improvement Programs aims to support the Army's modernization priorities by enhancing precision fire technology, close combat technology, indirect fire and fuze technology, and direct fire technology. The Precision Fire Technology Improvements project focuses on developing and integrating precision guided munitions (PGMs) and fuze technologies to increase range, lethality, effectiveness, survivability, and accuracy for artillery ammunition and platform modernization. The Close Combat Technology project aims to upgrade close combat technologies, energetics, and munitions to resolve reliability, safety, environmental, storage, standardization, obsolescence, and manufacturing issues. The Indirect Fire and Fuze Technology project works on upgrading indirect fire weapon systems and munitions to improve target engagement, reliability, availability, maintainability, safety, standardization, interoperability with allied nations' weapons and munitions, and reduction of failure mechanisms.

The Direct Fire Technology project supports the enhancement of small caliber ammunition for training purposes and environmental friendliness. It also focuses on improving medium caliber ammunition's lethality and safety features. Additionally, it examines performance enhancement for tank ammunition and improvements to tracer cartridges. The funding allocation for FY 2024 will support software development activities for precision fire technology improvements as well as fuze setting integration activities required for compatibility with the Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA) weapon system. These efforts align with the Army's strategic goals of modernizing its weapons systems to enhance effectiveness and readiness.
