Specialized Undergraduate Flight Training

Specialized Undergraduate Flight Training encompasses several key objectives within the Air Force's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation budget activity. This program supports the Air Education and Training Command's implementation of Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training and the Department of Defense initiative for joint pilot training. It includes specific elements such as Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) Training, T-6 Operational System Development, and T-38 Operational System Development. The goals of these efforts include producing RPA pilots and Sensor Operators from accession sources to man RPA squadrons, continuing development activities for the T-6 aircraft, and supporting the training of pilots in advanced fighter aircraft.

The Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) Training program aims to develop capabilities to produce RPA pilots and Sensor Operators for RPA squadrons. This includes developing organic software capabilities, updating obsolete equipment, and developing new training tools to reduce costs while ensuring RPA training is ready to support the National Defense Strategy. The T-6 Operational System Development program focuses on follow-on development activities for the T-6 aircraft, including studies and development efforts, instructional courseware, logistics support, and various system upgrades. These efforts directly aid the Air Education Training Command's flying training enterprise to increase overall pilot production and reduce the USAF Pilot Shortage.
