Space Rapid Capabilities Office

The Space Rapid Capabilities Office (Space RCO) under the Air Force Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) budget activity 3620F, aims to expedite the development and fielding of operationally focused capabilities for immediate and near-term needs as directed by the Space RCO Board of Directors. The program's specific objectives include providing uninterrupted, assured, and logistically agile power to expeditionary forces operating in unimproved areas through the development of space-based solar power technology. Additionally, the program supports rapid acquisition projects, studies, and analyses that address emergent capabilities requirements and other Space RCO Board of Directors approved efforts. The program also focuses on implementing system resiliency and situational awareness necessary to operate in the contested space domain.

The Space RCO program element PE 1206857SF is dedicated to supporting the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) developed Space Solar Power project to collect solar energy and provide uninterrupted, assured, and logistically agile power to expeditionary forces operating in unimproved areas such as forward operating bases. The program's goals include rapidly demonstrating innovative technology through a series of integrated demos and technology development/maturation efforts. Additionally, the program conducts studies and analyses for future programs to support the Board of Directors' approved efforts. The program also includes necessary civilian pay expenses required to manage, execute, and deliver Space RCO weapon system capabilities in addition to civilian pay expenses budgeted in other related program elements.
