MLRS Product Improvement Program

The MLRS Product Improvement Program under the Army's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation budget activity, aims to support the development and testing of the Army's rocket launcher fleet, including the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) launcher and the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launcher. The program's specific objectives include funding software development, training updates, Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing (APNT) technology implementation, integration of satellite communications, and nonrecurring engineering for both the MLRS and HIMARS launchers. Additionally, it supports the Army's goal to develop common solutions applicable to both MLRS and HIMARS launchers. The program is a key enabler of the Army Modernization Priorities in support of the MLRS and HIMARS programs.

The funding for the MLRS Product Improvement Program contributes to common efforts between both launcher platforms such as APNT integration and rocket launcher software development effort by Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation and Missile Center (CCDC AvMC). The program aims to maintain capability associated with the current and evolving threat by funding non-recurring engineering for system hardware and software modernization to the MLRS chassis, Launcher Loader Module, and Fire Control System. It also supports an integrated fires development effort that includes survivability, resiliency, and effectiveness improvements against advanced threats from near-peer adversaries. The program's goals include integration with an evolving common fires mission command, common development tools and processes, and annual test and evaluation to provide data to support program assessments and progress toward closure of performance gaps.
