Description
M777 Mods is a joint service initiative between the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the United States Army to modernize the Lightweight 155mm Howitzer (LW155), the M777A2. The specific goal of this budget line item is to integrate modernized Digital Fire Control System (DFCS) components and Assured Position, Navigation and Timing (APNT) compliance initiatives onto the M777 howitzer platform. This includes retrofitting previously procured hardware and software modifications, addressing security and supportability issues through Software and Hardware Engineering Change Proposals, and field retrofits of items such as the Mission Computer, Chief of Section Display, upgraded software, and radio hardware integration kits. The program aims to ensure continued interoperability and survivability on the battlefield by enhancing precision and near-precision fires in a Global Positioning System (GPS) contested environment while maintaining current operational tempo.

The objectives of this budget line item include supporting field retrofits of previously contracted Engineering Change Proposals for various components, such as the Mission Computer (MSC-R), Chief of Section Display (CSD-R), upgraded software, and radio hardware integration kits. Additionally, it aims to address security and supportability issues through Software and Hardware Engineering Change Proposals for the Digital Fire Control System (DFCS). The program also involves the procurement and fielding of specific Digital Fire Control Electronic Components to maintain current operational tempo. Furthermore, it includes non-recurring engineering change proposals for APNT initiatives, radio integration kits, software integration, electronic communication components, and various other system critical Digital Fire Control System (DFCS) hardware and software modifications. These efforts are intended to enhance the M777A2's performance, interoperability, survivability, and precision-guided munitions capabilities.
