High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS

The specific goal of this program is to procure and field the M142 HIMARS launcher, a precision strike weapon system, to support the Army's modernization effort for Long Range Precision Fires. The objectives include providing critical missile precision strike, operational shaping fires, counter-fire, and close support destructive and suppressive fires. The program aims to enhance the Army's capabilities for Integrated Fires and Multi-Domain Operations by procuring beyond the Army Acquisition Objective (AAO) in support of increased force structure. Additionally, the program seeks to leverage foreign military sales and increased production capacity to decrease launcher unit costs and support additional HIMARS launchers and Fleet Expansion.

The program also aims to achieve cost savings through contract negotiations, other service procurement, and foreign military sales to procure additional HIMARS launchers and associated equipment. Furthermore, the program intends to address fielding support needs by purchasing initial spares in support of fielded launchers. The program's objectives align with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), which mandates the necessity of this item for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities.
