Description
Anti-Armor Missile-Javelin is a procurement initiative under the Navy's budget activity for guided missiles and equipment. The program aims to provide the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps with a man-portable fire-and-forget medium-range anti-armor missile system. The specific objectives include enhancing situational awareness and direct-fire effects to defeat armored vehicles, fortifications, and soft targets in full spectrum operations. The program also focuses on achieving a high kill rate against a variety of targets at extended ranges under adverse environments caused by day/night, weather, battlefield obscurants, and multiple counter-measure conditions. Additionally, the program aims to ensure the system's soft launch feature permits firing from a fighting position or from an enclosure, and the modular design allows for the evolution of both software and hardware upgrades to meet changing threats and requirements.

The program's funding request for FY 2024 will support the procurement of Lightweight Command Launch Units (LWCLU) needed to achieve the extended maximum range provided by the newer Javelin missiles. This will enable the USMC to maintain a tactical advantage against enemy armor and provide effective sustainment. The increase in funding from FY 2023 to FY 2024 is due to the procurement of 128 Javelin LWCLU as a drop-in replacement for the current Block I CLU, CLU Modernization, and decrease in missile procurement quantity. The program also includes engineering and logistics support of the Javelin system, updating of reserve equipment, and program management support.

Overall, Program 3011 aims to ensure that the United States Army and Marine Corps have access to advanced anti-armor missile technology that enhances their capabilities in combat scenarios while providing effective sustainment through modernized command launch units.
