Abrams Upgrade Program

Abrams Upgrade Program aims to provide Advance Procurement (AP) for the initial production of the Abrams M1A2 Systems Enhancement Program (SEP) version 4 (M1A2 SEPv4) tank. This funding line directly supports the Army's Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) Modernization priority by modernizing the Abrams tank fleet through a series of deliberate incremental Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs). The program focuses on lethality improvements to integrate higher functioning sensors, modules, and fire control, with a specific emphasis on the 3rd Generation Forward Looking Infrared (3rd GEN FLIR) capability. The procurement includes 45 each Third Generation Forward Looking Infrared (3rd GEN FLIR) Gunner's Primary Sight (GPS) and Commander's Primary Sight (CPS) and other long lead items to enhance target identification and engagement capabilities.

The specific objectives of this program include providing significant production efficiency by ensuring critical technology insertions are available for the Prime Contractor, General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS), to meet the M1A2 SEPv4 production schedule and prevent a production break. Additionally, the program aims to support the Army's Regionally Aligned Readiness and Modernization Model (ReARMM) and align with the Army Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) Modernization strategy. The procurement of advanced sensors and technology improvements is intended to enhance the lethality and operational capabilities of the Abrams tank fleet, allowing for greater accuracy in engaging threat targets at much greater distances.
