Objective
In 2010, ARRA Primary Care Training and Enhancement Grants were awarded for the following purposes: (1) Academic Administrative Units in Primary Care-- to establish, maintain, or improve academic administrative units (which may be departments, divisions, or other entities) to provide clinical instruction in family medicine, general internal medicine, and/or general pediatrics; (2) Predoctoral Training in Primary Care-- to plan, develop, and operate or participate in programs (including provision of financial assistance to students) that teach medical students primary care skills through experiences in family medicine, general internal medicine, and/or general pediatrics; (3) Residency Training in Primary Care-- to plan, develop, and operate or participate (including provision of financial assistance to residents) in approved residency programs in family medicine, general internal medicine and/or general pediatrics; (4) Physician Faculty Development in Primary Care-- to plan, develop, and operate programs (including provision of financial assistance to trainees) that prepare physicians who teach or plan to teach in family medicine, general internal medicine and/or general pediatrics training programs; (5) Physician Assistant Training in Primary Care-- to plan, develop, and operate programs (including provision of financial assistance to students) physician assistant students and that train individuals who will teach physician assistant students; (6) Interdisciplinary and Interprofessional Graduate Joint Degree -- to plan, develop, and operate joint degree programs to provide interdisciplinary and interprofessional graduate training in public health and other health professions and that teach environmental health, infectious disease control, disease prevention and health promotion, epidemiological studies and/or injury control. In 2010, ARRA Training in General, Pediatric, and Public Health Dentistry grants were awarded for the following purposes; (1) Predoctoral Training in General, pediatric and Public Health Dentistry and Dental Hygiene – to plan, develop, and operate, or participate in, an approved professional Predoctoral training program in the field of general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, or public health dentistry for dental or dental hygiene students, dental hygienists, or other approved primary care dental trainees, that emphasizes training for general, pediatric, or public health dentistry; and (2) Postdoctoral Training in General, Pediatric and Public Health Dentistry and Dental Hygiene – to plan, develop, and operate, or participate in, an approved professional postdoctoral training program in the fields of general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, or public health dentistry for dental residents, or practicing dentists or other approved primary care dental trainees that emphasizes training for general, pediatric and public health dentistry.

Applicant Eligibility
The applicant organization must meet the eligibility requirements as indicated for each program area, as follows: Medicine: Residency Training in Primary Care, Physician Faculty Development in Primary Care, Physician Assistant Training in Primary Care, Interdisciplinary and Interprofessional Graduate Joint Degree: Public or nonprofit private hospitals, accredited schools of medicine or osteopathic medicine, accredited, academically affiliated physician assistant education programs, or public or private nonprofit entities are eligible to apply. Faith-based and community-based organizations that meet the criteria in the preceding sentence are eligible to apply. Joint Degree applicants must be able to confer both a health profession degree and a graduate public health degree and support the integration of public health into primary care education for health professionals. Predoctoral Training in Primary Care, Academic Administrative Units in Primary Care: Accredited public or nonprofit private schools of allopathic or osteopathic medicine are eligible to apply. Faith-based and community-based organizations that meet the criteria in the preceding sentence are eligible to apply. Dental: Entities eligible for grants to support training in general, pediatric, or public health dentistry include entities that have programs in dental or dental hygiene schools; or have approved residency or advanced education programs in the practice of general, pediatric, or public health dentistry, including dental hygiene unless otherwise noted. Grants may be made to accredited dental or dental hygiene schools, public or private not-for-profit hospitals, or other public or not for profit entities to plan, develop, and operate, or participate in, an approved professional training program in the field of general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, public health dentistry, or dental hygiene for dental or dental hygiene students, dental residents, practicing dentists or dental hygienists, or other approved primary care dental trainees, that emphasizes training in general, pediatric, or public health dentistry. Federally Recognized Indian Tribal Governments and Native American Organizations may apply if otherwise eligible.

For the following programs: Residency Training in Primary Care, Physician Faculty Development in Primary Care, Physician Assistant Training in Primary Care, Interdisciplinary and Interprofessional Graduate Joint Degree: Public or nonprofit private hospitals, accredited schools of medicine or osteopathic medicine, or public or private nonprofit entities are eligible to apply. Predoctoral Training in Primary Care, Academic Administrative Units in Primary Care: Accredited public or nonprofit private schools of allopathic or osteopathic medicine are eligible to apply.
